Creagami is an Italian take on the ancient Japanese art of Origami. You make these wonderful 3D sculptures but the actual paper folding is really straightforward. The pieces of paper are pre-cut and include fold lines.
Creating the sculpture is a two stage process
For the first part of the creation, you fold the pieces of paper. They are about 6cm long and the folding process always follows the same five easy moves. Yes it is a bit fiddly but really not too bad. As you have to fold 289 of these pieces, just switch the brain off and get into the rhythm. It is strangely therapeutic and the whole family can help.
The second stage, where you assemble the structure from all the folded pieces you have already made, is where it gets more complicated and you will need to follow each step carefully in the video. Each triangular piece slots into the back of another so there is no glue but you do have to watch exactly how to do it. The video is clear but it is fast, so it helps to be able to be able to stop and start it at each level. The demonstrator in the video makes it look easy but you'll need patiece and perseverence. Step by step though the bee gradually takes shape.
Age suitability: 7+. Adults will also enjoy it.
