Games and Puzzles

Another of the Smart Games we keep on our shop counter.  This is really for children 3 to 6 year olds but it still makes many adults think.

There is a booklet with 48 challenges telling you where to place the pigs on the board.  In the first half, it is daytime and the wolf is not around, so you position the three houses on the board with the pigs outside the houses.  In the second half, the wolf appears, so you have to place the houses in such a way that the pigs are safely inside and the wolf outside.

Elegant brain teaser game for children aged 7 and over.

Comes with a booklet containing 80 challenges that get harder and harder, with the latter ones stretching many an adult.  Choose a challenge and place the temples on the board in the correct positions. Then try to connect them using the roads and bridges supplied.  Adding the dragon in should make it just a little bit easier.

Another great brain teaser game.  Smart Farmer is recommended for children 5 years and older, so it is great for children who have completed the Three Little Piggies but are probably not quite ready for Jump'in or Dinosaur Island.

Position the animals on the board and then place the three fences so that the cows are in one field, the pigs in another and the sheep in another.  There are sixty challenges, getting progressively harder and harder. Like all Smart Games it is beautifully made and thought-out.

Single person brain game for children aged 4 to 7 with 48 challenges of varying difficulty.

Put Little Red Riding Hood, Grandma's House and the three trees on the board and then place the path pieces so that Little Red Riding Hood can get to the house.  In the harder puzzles, the wolf comes in and needs his own path to the house.

Test your logic by arranging the pieces so that the vegetarian dinosaurs are on different islands to the greedy meat-eating ones.

Single person puzzle game.

The booklet contains 80 challenges, each one showing a layout of islands that you have to recreate on the board.  As you go through the book, you get less and less help.  It is suitable for children from 6 up although younger ones may need a little help initially getting the hang of the concept.  I highly recommend it, not least because, in quiet moments in the shop, I have managed to complete all the puzzles which isn't the case for many of the other Smart Games.

Single player brain game for children age 6 upwards with a booklet of 120 challenges that start easy and get harder and harder.

Single person brain teaser game for children age 7 and upwards.

Choose one of the eighty challenges.  They start easy but get harder and harder as you work through the book.

You'll be told the outcome of the battle between the two pirate ships and the 4 navy ships, which side ends up being sunk and which victorious.  Place the two rock pieces where indicated on the board and then work out where to place all the ships.  Each ship has canons on both sides, so if you place them side by side, both ships sink.  If you place them side on, just one will sink.

Cat Crimes is a single player brain game in which you have to identify which of the six cats committed the crime. So choose a challenge card, put the crime token on the board and then using the clues on the card work out where each of the cats were sitting.  The one sitting opposite the token is the culprit.

Age suitability: 8 years+

Single person brain teaser for anyone aged between 7 and 99.

Described as the ultimate solitaire; place the four magnetic base plates together to form your playing board and then try to position the twelve coloured pieces.  It's not always too easy.  There is a booklet with 60 challenges to get you going but any number of different challeges are possible.  Good luck.
